Ah, This Is the Quarter Life
Six days ago I turned twenty-five.
Six days ago marked the end of my first month in Los Angeles.
And the beginning of my second.
Funny Youtube video below!
I’m settled now. Still a couple things to hang on the wall that I just haven’t gotten to, but other than that, everything is in its place. I have my desktop back and with no further excuse to not get back on “The Martians,” I’ve resorted to unadulterated, inexcusable procrastination. Chad actually wrote a blog post just recently, summing up the mindset precisely. But soldier on in spite of it, I must. As with my own editing and writing, this blog included. So, once this post is written, it’s back to the editing grindstone. I swear it! Right after I go grocery shopping.
Otherwise, the pace of things has abated a bit. One of Chad’s friends’ came into town for a few days (actually two, but only one was around for more than an afternoon) and we went to a party of one of Chad’s actress friends, wherein my wallflower nature reared itself with great affect.
Tony and I went to a Groundlings show, which was mostly sketch comedy sprinkled with a little short form improv (which Tony and I both agreed was good, though nothing light years beyond our own abilities). Among the ensemble was one of the women from Reno 911! A few days later we attempted to go to an Upright Citizens Brigade show, only to arrive close to show time and discover that you needed a reservation or else wait standby for any remaining seats. After doing so, we then discovered that they only take cash, which neither Tony or I had on us at the time. We still have to make a second attempt, more properly prepared.
Saturday, Fig, Chad, and I went over to Ryan and Dorkman’s place to watch the Oscars. I have managed to see zero of the movies up for Best Picture, and precious little beyond that, so that’s about all I have to add to that conversation.
On Tuesday, Chad and I went to a test screening of one of Judd Apatow’s latest productions, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which was entertaining enough. But hey, Kristen Bell gets some screen time and a paycheck (as well as the title character role), so I’m okay with it. And Mila Kunis is surprisingly capable in her performance; not that she’s Striesand, but she does actually demonstrate some range beyond “annoying girl,” which I found a remarkable revelation.
I haven’t, and presumably would have by now, heard anything from that job Hunter set me up with, so that’s likely never to be seen again. But, in the meantime, the strike has ended and everyone has gotten back to work, which means that an internship that my career development rep told me about before I graduated is finally getting underway again, after being frozen from the strike. It’d be a pretty spectacular opportunity all around and my odds are pretty good considering, so I’m really hoping it works out. Were I to get a call, it would come within the next 10-14 days, so I’ve got a little more waiting around to do, which I’m not eager for, but certainly will for this. If this doesn’t pan out, then it’s back to the drawing board, but let’s hope not.
And as previously mentioned, on Saturday I turned 25. Tony and his friend (who had gone to see the Groundlings show with us) came up to our neck of the woods and had a couple of beers at NoBar across the street, where we spotted this guy. I’m now officially half way through my twenties. Ugh.
I’m too young to feel this old.
And as promised, a pretty hilarious Youtube video:
